During the Spring semester of my junior year, I studied abroad at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa. Here, I researched the racial, gender, and LGBTQ issues which affected post-apartheid South Africa. I also joined the Young Women’s Leadership Project (YWLP), an organization dedicated to feminist leadership and sexual and reproductive health rights education for girls. As a member, I participated in workshops by UCT’s African Gender Institute to effectively communicate reproductive rights to South African girls and women. My involvement in YWLP culminated into the group research paper “Activist Leadership and Questions of Sexuality with Young Women: A South African Story” published in Feminist Formations.
