Views from Austin

This past weekend, I represented the Newhouse Center at a reception following the Modern Language Association (MLA) Convention in Austin, Texas. The business trip was a great chance to explore the city on Friday and Saturday.

After checking in my hotel, I indulged in brunch at Gloria’s, a restaurant featuring Salvadorian, Tex-Mex cuisine and $4 Margaritas- an unheard of phenomenon in Boston. Once I checked brunch off of my checklist, I visited the State Capitol adorned with incredible architecture and serene surroundings only worthy of Texas. I even made it to Free for Y’all, an installment in Austin’s Free Week, a free concert series during the first week of January featuring upcoming local acts.

On Saturday, I explored the city even more, walking along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, shopping at the dapper heaven known as Dandy’s, and sightseeing around the downtown area.

Leaving Sunday felt too soon. But the break was much needed to start 2016. Can’t wait to see what this new year brings.
